Our Story – who we are and how it all began About Us

Moyoni Africa combines a unique travel experience with the good feeling of supporting something meaningful. Although we are involved in numerous projects across Africa, supporting the education and training of children and young people is our special concern and the primary mission of our family foundation, the 'W. Wegener Foundation'.

The idea of founding a company in Tanzania

With long-term experience in managing an international enterprise and a deep love for Africa, founding a company in Tanzania was the logical step to provide financial support for our local foundation projects.
This inspired the founding of a small but unique safari business. Together with our Tanzanian friends and partners, we brought Moyoni Africa to life in a short time. Today, our charming, eco-friendly boutique lodge and a brand-new Toyota Land Cruiser are ready to warmly and comfortably welcome our guests. The parent company that ties all these ventures together is Chamischa Africa Ltd.

Our mission

We are small but different, as all our profits are distributed between the Arusha orphanages and the 'W. Wegener Foundation' projects in the Kilimanjaro region, Arusha, and Manyara. While you enjoy the beauty of Tanzania, every dollar you spend stays in the country and helps sustain our projects. With many years of experience, our German-Tanzanian team is able to meet every individual requirement, allowing you to travel consciously while supporting the education of young people in the country.

Tour Guide Our Safari Experts and Tour Guides

“My family lives for generations in the hills around the Kilimanjaro, and all nature around, especially the animal-life, was fascinating to me since I was a child. To become a tour guide was my dream, and each safari still is a new adventure to me, even after 15 years. To show my home country to guests from all around the world and to see how they enjoy, their happiness, this is what I like.”

Michaela Wegener Safari Expert and Tour Organizer

“After long years running the family business of textile production, I decided to make my dreams come true and travel through Tanzania, visiting each corner of the country, collecting knowledge of people, landscapes, animals and the fascinating nature.
I took the challenge of starting an entirely new business, found loyal partners in Tanzania, discovered a beautiful location with views of Mount Meru and Mount Kilimanjaro to build a lodge, established a unique safari business, and even opened a small fashion boutique.“

When to travel to Tanzania?

Green season: November–May

The warmer green season is when calving happens, guaranteeing plenty of predator action; it also means excellent photography conditions and fewer crowds.

Dry season: June–October

Cooler and drier conditions deliver excellent game viewing and the famous Great Migration river crossings happen. Please note that this is peak season, so availability can be limited, prices are at their highest, and the parks are crowded with tourists. We recommend booking your flight early.
